Who doesn’t love a creamy nut cheese? Honestly? I recently had the pleasure of trying products from a new company in Toronto called Wood + Water Foods.
I tried two flavours: Original and Herb + Spice. Being the garlic fan I liked the Herb + Spice more, but I can see how both of them have their applications. Sometimes you want that clean taste to be a bed for other ingredients. I could see the Original being a great base for a cheesecake, and low and behold, they make a Vanilla and Berry flavour.
It was soft, and creamy, and it didn’t have that chemical taste that toffuti has. I would suggest it as cream cheese since it spreads very well, but it also would go well with fruit and or crackers. Be prepared for a plain and simple taste because of the purity of the ingredients.
I should point out, I asked five non-vegan co-workers to try them and four out of five really enjoyed the Herb + Spice. I used the plain one on a bagel and it was divine. Nothing like slathering a thick layer and biting down. So satisfying. I had a hard time putting down the crackers with the Herb + Spice. As you can see, the texture of the cheese, is thick enough to hold a cracker, and smooth enough to be spreadable.
The packaging is eco friendly, and compostable, plus it’s incredibly cute. I mean really, I was attracted right away, who doesn’t love a good design? I also enjoy the paper the cheese comes wrapped in, it really reinforces the hand-crafted small batch quality of such a product.
